Rabbit Peak lies within Riverside County in the Santa Rosa Mountains, just a mile or two north of the San Diego border. The peak had originally caught my attention in winter of 2007 when I saw that it was named one of the toughest day-hikes in California. 23 miles and 8300 feet of gain/loss, its no joke! I hiked it alone in February of 2008 making great time, but I went back in April 2009 to shave over 2 hours off the previous trip to make the roundtrip in 8:55.
