I still can’t believe how much I squeezed into this trip and didn’t feel crazy rushed, though the 4000 miles on the rental car might say otherwise. I tagged 7 state high points, bringing my count up to 43 of 50, and had some nice bonuses along the way – paddled the Boundary Waters Canoe Area in MN, one national park, 3 amazing state parks, a little sightseeing in Detroit (Ford Museum A++), Chicago, Cleveland, and Indianapolis., and visited a few friends and family…
May 27 – Arrive Milwauke 3am, sleep in airport until 7am. Drive to western wisconsin, lunch with Bruce Carey. Drive to Minneapolis, dinner with Mike Stanton. Pick up Philip Wegge from MSP airport, drive to Iowa high point, camp.
May 28 – drive to northern Minnesota, hike Eagle Mountain, camp
May 29 – Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness – paddle from Sawbill Lake to Cherokee Lake, camp on an island.
May 30 – Paddle back to Sawbill Lake. Dinner in Duluth, drive to Timm’s Hill (WI).
May 31 – Mt. Arvon (MI), Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, Detroit.
June 1 – Philip flies out. Ford Museum, drive to Nelson-Kennedy Ledges (OH) via Cleveland.
June 2 – Hike Nelson-Kennedy Ledges, Cuyahoga National Park, Berlin (Amish country)
June 3 – Campbell Hill (OH), Hoosier Hill (ID), Turkey Run State Park (ID)
June 4 – Starved Rock State Park (IL)
June 5 – Charles Mound (IL), Chicago
June 6 – Lunch with Dad in Champaigne (IL), drinks/karaoke with Bruce in Madison (WI)
June 7 – Fly from Milwaukee @5am
