Peak 6582 (aka Lorenzens Peak, aka Dawns Peak) was really the only peak around Anza Borrego that I’d yet to hit. One of the more strenuous peaks in the area, the ascent includes a series of ridges and sandy washes that lead up to a plateau below the peak, followed by a sharp 3000 foot ascent in less than a mile to the summit. I spent the previous evening and night with friends Jeff Manchester (+ dog Gravy) and April Goebl, hiking through a slot canyon, and then enjoying a few beers near Clark Dry Lake Bed. The 4 of us started off for P6582 the next morning, checked out some pictographs en route, and April and I continued on as Jeff and Gravy peeled off to check out some other desert sights as planned. April and I had beautiful weather and views after sweating it out on the final ascent, arrived back at the car just after dark, and enjoyed a nice meal at Carlee’s back in Borrego Springs before the drive home. A very fulfilling short and last-minute weekend J
