The people in Ehtiopia are incredibly friendly, and the sights – mindblowing:

Danikil Depression – The hottest place on earth and one of the lowest (-410ft). Includes Erta Ale (a short volcano with one of the world’s only permanent lava lakes), salt flats (being mined via camel on mulit-day excursions), a sulfur lake at Dallol. We had armed escorts on this 4-day tour due to the proximity to Eritrea.

Churches of Lalibela – carved out of solid rock

Simien Mountains – reaching 14.5k’ feet, lots of wildlife and breathtaking views

Gondar – a lovely city and its centerpiece, a 17th century castle
