This trip was focused on my quest to tag the high point of all 50 states. I ended up reaching more than I had hoped on this trip – 19 in all (which brings me up to 36/50), putting some 5567 miles on my rental car, plus some bonuses. Although quite a few of the below peaks are drive-ups, I ended up having to walk and or/snowshoe some of the roads due to winter closures:
Feb 16 – Arrive New Orleans, drive to northern Louisiana
Feb 17 – Hike Mt. Driskill (LA) and Mt. Magazine (AR)
Feb 18 – Buffalo National River, drive to Missouri
Feb 19 – Hike Taum Sauk (MO), Giant City State Park (IL) and dinner with Dad
Feb 20 – Garden of the Gods (IL), Mammoth Cave National Park (KY), Black Mtn (KY)
Feb 21 – Drive to near West Virgina State Highpoint, get stuck in snow (1.5 hours to dig out)
Feb 22 – Hike Spruce Knob (WV), Backbone Mtn (MD), Mt Davis (PN), drive to NJ
Feb 23 – High Point Mtn (NJ), Mt Frissell (CT), Mt Greylock (MA, in a storm @night)
Feb 24 – Drive to Philladelphia, hang out with friend Chris Pagoda
Feb 25 – Ebright Azimuth (DE), drive to Virginia
Feb 26 – Mt Rogers (VA, in a storm), Mt Sassafrass (SC) with friend Jill Slaby
Feb 27 – Brass Mtn (GA), Mt Mitchell (NC), drive to Great Smoky Mtn National Park
Feb 28 – Clingman’s Dome (TN)
Feb 29 – Lost Sea, Nashville (Country Music Hall of Fame), Memphis (BBQ + The Blues)
March 1 – Woddall Mtn (MS), Mt Cheaha (AL), Britton Hill (FL)
March 2 – Drive the Gulf Coast along the FL panhandle, oysters in New Orleans, fly home
