2016: February 16 – March 2 » The South and the East (21 States)

This trip was focused on my quest to tag the high point of all 50 states. I ended up reaching more than I had hoped on this trip – 19 in all (which brings me up to 36/50), putting some 5567 miles on my rental car, plus some bonuses. Although quite a few of the below peaks are drive-ups, I ended up having to walk and or/snowshoe some of the roads due to winter closures:

Feb 16 – Arrive New Orleans, drive to northern Louisiana

Feb 17 – Hike Mt. Driskill (LA) and Mt. Magazine (AR)

Feb 18 – Buffalo National River, drive to Missouri

Feb 19 – Hike Taum Sauk (MO), Giant City State Park (IL) and dinner with Dad

Feb 20 – Garden of the Gods (IL), Mammoth Cave National Park (KY), Black Mtn (KY)

Feb 21 – Drive to near West Virgina State Highpoint, get stuck in snow (1.5 hours to dig out)

Feb 22 – Hike Spruce Knob (WV), Backbone Mtn (MD), Mt Davis (PN), drive to NJ

Feb 23 – High Point Mtn (NJ), Mt Frissell (CT), Mt Greylock (MA, in a storm @night)

Feb 24 – Drive to Philladelphia, hang out with friend Chris Pagoda

Feb 25 – Ebright Azimuth (DE), drive to Virginia

Feb 26 – Mt Rogers (VA, in a storm), Mt Sassafrass (SC) with friend Jill Slaby
