Summits: 1380

2013: April 27-28 » Suicide Rock and Sam Fink

I arrived in Idyllwild with Philip Stinis Saturday evening, with just enough time to tag the summit of Suicide Rock before dark. We blazed the climber’s trail (usually used for approaching the popular rock climbing routes) in less than 90 minutes roundtrip, and we crossed paths with friend Matthew Meyer, a pleasant surprise and crazy coincidence. The following day we hiked out to the eastern crest of the Jacinto area wilderness to hit the top of Sam Fink peak on the desert divide. A seldom visited summit, we were the 2nd party to sign in to the register in 2013. The views were impressive, looking down over Palm Desert to the east and the featured ridgeline containing Antsel Rock and other HPS peaks to the southwest. The roundtrip to Sam Fink took us just under 7 hours moving at a pretty good pace with just a few short breaks.
