Since my first visit to Central America in 2010, I had been itching to get back and into Nicaragua. I held a fascination with Ometepe, an inhabited volcano island located in Lake Nicaragua, the world’s 19th largest freshwater lake. Traveling with my brother, we visited Granada, Ometepe, and San Juan del Sur, renting motorcycles, swimming, kayaking, eating fresh fish, and sampling the local beer and rum along the way. Eventually we crossed into Costa Rica on foot, finishing out our trip by taking in as much of Costa Rica’s wildlife and spending as much time at its inviting beaches as possible.
